Week 2 Update (10/05): On Tuesday students will turn in page 8 of their Science Fair packet that has been signed by a parent.  Students should also have the registration paperwork for the state science fair filled out and signed by Tuesday. Students will then begin science fair research this Wednesday.  Students are responsible for finding at least 3 sources of infomation for their research by Friday.  Once students have gathered their research information on their topic they will begin the process of writing their Literature Review and developing a Hypothesis. A typed copy of the Literature Review and Hypothesis is due 10/14.

Week 1 Update (09/28): On Wednesday (09/30) this week students will be given their science fair packet which we will work through for the next couple of weeks (there is a link to the packet below just in case it goes missing or is forgotten at school).  We will discuss appropriate science fair topics and questions, as well as, State Competition Rules and paperwork.  Students will have the opportunity to use sciencebuddies.org to look for topic ideas if they need help deciding.  Science Fair topics are due in class on Friday (10/02) where they will be discussed with Mrs. d and edited if necessary.  Topics will then be sent home for parent approval (sign and return by next Tuesday 10/6).  State registration paperwork (that must be completed for each project prior to starting experimentation) will also be sent home to be signed and returned by next Tuesday (10/6). The official rule book for the 2016 State Science Fair is attached below.

Week 3 Update (10/13): On Tuesday of this week students will have another opportunity to work on their Literature Review.  The final copy of the Lit Review is due on Wednesday via Google Classroom (Log-in info below).  We will also discuss procedure writing and students will begin writing their procedures and materials list.  This will be a working copy of the procedure, as changes can be made while the experiment happens.  A final copy of the procedure will be due 10/20 via Google Classroom.  Students who  need to fill out the extra state required paperwork for using human or animal subjects will be given the paperwork this week and it will be due with their procedure.  If a student is part of this group we will meet together during the literacy block on Wednesday. There is a list of students and topics on Google classroom that will let them know if extra paperwork is required for their experiment.

Week 4 Update (10/19): Science Fair procedure is due Tuesday this week (10/20) via Google Classroom.  On Tuesday in class, we will work on peer editing procedures.  Students should begin experimenting!  Data from the experiment is due in class on 11/10!

A graph and data table will be due, via Google Classroom, on Friday 11/13.   We will also be working to finish up all the remaining parts of the science fair including, a conclusion paragraph, abstract and works cited page.  All of these remaining items (conclusion paragraph, abstract adn works cited page) will be due, via Google Classroom, by the end of the class period on Tuesday, 11/17.  On Monday and Tuesday of next week (11/16-11/17) students can also begin to put together their trifold board.  A sample trifold board will be presented, and the setup will be added to Google Classroom.
