Twinkle Twinkle variations

During Reading Week, we celebrate local "hero" Michael Galib (conductor, composer, musican) as he performs Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Twinkle Twinkle Variations for Grade 1 students in the Reading Cafe on April 10.

What are we learning in class?...

Kindergarten:  Four types of voices; discriminating sounds; generating movement ideas.

Grade 1:  Begining music reading- adding one line and two spaces to represent high and low notes (sol-mi).

Grade 2: Learning to improve playing ostinato on the barred instruments by critiquing our performance; singing and writing new 3-note pattern (sol-mi-do).

Grade 3: singing and writing new pattern mi-re-do ; working as an ensemble through passing games.

Classroom Expectations

Following our school rules for RESPECT, RESPONSIBLE, SAFE and READY TO LEARN.

Our poster of the Musician's Pledge guides our classroom values of personal responsibility:  listening, following directions, self-control, respect and doing our best.

A clip system rating their level of musicianship reinforces the expectations:  (4) Maestro: a true leader!; (3) Professional; being good at what you do; (2) Amateur: still learning; (1) Beginner:  needs help and reminders.

Students in grades 2 & 3 self-evaluate at the end of class and move their clip to the appropriate level for the day.
