Members from the Portsmouth Middle School Band will be performing at Barnes & Noble on Thursday, December 17th from 5:30 - 6:00 PM.  Student art work will be on display all day.  A portion of purchases made on this day will be donated to the music and art programs.  If you can not join us and would like to make a purchase to support the programs please order online and enter code #11763687. 

All students in grades 5, 6, 7 & 8 will have to complete a quarterly composition assignment.  The assignment will be in the attachments below.

The due date for Quarter 2 is Friday, December 18th.

Grade 5 Band:  Woodwinds & Percussion

Quarter 2: Students will continue to work on sound production and performing basic rhythm patterns on their instrument.  Students will also start to read and understand musical notation for their chosen instrument.

Students should practice 10 minutes a day, 6 days a week.  Practicing shorter amounts of time frequently is better than practicing a long period of time once a week.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at phillipsd@portsmouthschoolsri.org

A Robert's order form is also attached below. Robert's Music travels to Portsmouth on Wednesday's.  Orders received by Tuesday morning will usually arrive on Wednesday unless the specific item is back-ordered.

 

Grade 6 Band:  Flutes, Clarinets, & Saxophones

Quarter 2:  Students will continue to work on the dotted quarter eighth note rhythm pattern as well as eighth notes and rests.  Students will accurately perform major scales up to 3 sharps and 3 flats on their instrument.

Grade 8 Music Composition

Students will work in the music lab on the various programs including Finale, Incredibox and Soundation.  They will input musical data, arrange music, write theme and variations as well as a 12 bar blues progression. The final project will include creating original music to put behind their graphic art project.

Yearbook Information 

Yearbooks will be on sale from September 1st - December 18th.  The cost is $25.  Please make checks payable to PMS and/or order online at www.balfour.com

Yearbooks will be distributed on the last day of school.



Portsmouth Middle School Scholastic Book Fair

The next book fair will be the week of October 27th from 7:30 AM - 2:30 PM.  Grade 4 students will be able to preview the fair on Friday, October 24th.  Please visit the online fair if you are not able to attend the fair in school or if the item you would like is no longer avaialble at the fair (the link is below).
