Welcome to Ms. Seddon's Math & GPS Classes

Welcome to sixth grade math and GPS. Your child will have a math class for the entire year and will have a second math class, called GPS (Geometry & Problem Solving) for half of each quarter. Mrs. Lancaster, the Science teacher, and I will each teach GPS to half of the learning center  During the other half of each quarter when a student doesn't have GPS, they will have Grammar. This additional instructional time in GPS allows for deeper understanding of the topic. We will explain the schedule thoroughly at our Open House.

I am looking forward to working with your child this year.  I hope your child completed the summer assignment, as it will prepare him/her for the beginning of the year.  It is also critical that students are adept with their math facts.  Everyone should know them through the 12 table.  This will make 6th grade math much easier!!

This website is designed to help support students at home.  It is updated daily with homework assigments, which are usually given from Monday through Thursday in math and in GPS. It shouldn't usually take more than 20-30 minutes per assignment.. Homework is an important part of learning. Students are responsible for writing their homework daily in their planners, but should they forget, they can check the website.  However, if the assignment isn't on the website, the student is still responsible for the homework. Each student will keep a binder for math and GPS, which will encourage organization.

It is important that each student come prepared with the supplies suggested. Students need calculators for several of our units. It is recommended that each student keep a calculator in their lockers.

Aspen is an elctronic program that allows you to monitor your child's progress. Please refer to the Portsmouth School Department webpage for directions.  I try to update ASPEN frequently so you are aware of your child's progress.

Sixth grade is a year of tremendous growth. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact us so that we can address immediately.  Our goal is for each student to have a successful year

Please email me with any questions at seddond@portsmouthschoolsri.org.  I will respond as quickly as possible.
