Seven Simple Homework Tips for Parents

1.  Be positive and upbeat about homework as your child will pick up on your attitude toward it.

2.  Review the assignments ahead of time so the scope of the work is understood.  This will give you a better grasp of how much time the assignment requires.

3.  Remember that it's your job to encourage and motivate but not do the actual work.

4.  Put a homework organization plan in place.  Have a homework folder for assignments and a designated homework desk or spot in the house so all homework-related items are in one location while your child is working.

5.  Set a designated homework time for each day.

6.  Recognize that just as each child has his or her own personality, so too does he or she have his or her own approach to homework.  Some children will need help prioritizing their work and staying on task.  Others will want their own space and will thrive when they complete assignments independently.

7.  Reach out to your child's teachers when you're in need.
