Procedural Writing for Investigation 1.1

Testing Bridge Thickness

Focus Question: How does bridge thickness relate to bridge strength?

Hypothesis: If the bridge has a greater thickness, then the bridge has a greater strength (higher breaking weight).

Materials: paper bridges - 11" x 4 1/4" strips of paper

a small paper cup

about 50 pennies

2 books of the same thickness

Procedure: Paper bridges will be made and pennies dropped in a cup in the middle of each bridge to test the breaking weight of each bridge thickness (layers 1,2,3,4, and 5).
