Portsmouth High School Letter of Intent Format (See Student Resources section for block letter template)
Using correct business letter format, write a letter of intent – a proposal – to the Portsmouth High School Senior Project Steering Committee. The purpose of this letter is to introduce your Senior Project topic. In this letter you should include the following information:
v Personal information about yourself. Introduce who you are to the board.
v Your topic of focus and arguable thesis for your research paper.
v How this project is a learning stretch for you! Be specific about your baseline knowledge in relation to the project overall and the product specifically.
v Your experience and interest in the area.
v Your mentor’s role in the project, and projected expenditures (both sources and amounts) for the project: be as specific as possible.
v A paragraph that clearly spells out the expected ethical behavior and that the penalty for violation will affect your graduation status.
Your letter should be well written, thoughtful, properly formatted, and interesting to read. This is the first step in your Senior Project journey, so make it a great one! Remember, although certain content is required, the key to a good letter is personal voice, insight, and organization. Your letter should reflect YOU!
