PHS Student Council

The Student Council at Portsmouth High School is comprised of forty spirited, dynamic, and enthusiastic students. In order for students to serve as Council members, they must:

  • Be in good academic standing
  • Have the endorsement of three faculty members, the class advisor and parent permission.

Class Officers (President, Vice President, Secretary & Treasurer) and six Student Representatives are elected annually in each grade level (9-12).

In addition, the Executive Board (President, Vice President, Secretary & Treasurer) is elected from a pool of nominated Student Representative candidates.  The Executive Board presides over all Student Council business, events and activities.

The Student Council and its members are the "Center" of the student extra-curricular activity program. It is the policy of PHS that all planned activities involving school related clubs be brought before the Council for approval and scheduling. Many of the Student Council members are asked to serve as liaisons on schoolwide the Portsmouth Town Council and the School Committee. These opportunities serve to broaden the students' development of leadership skills, and promote effective communication skills.

STUCO Supports Annual Melville Fall Festival
The Portsmouth High School Student Council was hard at work this past Saturday in support of the Annual Melville School Fall Festival .  The council volunteered from 9:00am - 3:00pm and staffed the activity game area in the gymnsasium.  Their enthusiasm in working with the elementary students made the entire day fun for all.  We appreciate their efforts and willingness to give back to their community.  Please follow the link below to view pictures from this event that was held on October 30, 2010 at Melville School.
