The Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday was celebrated on Monday, January 16th with a "Black History Bowl" originated by  Portsmouth High School Librarian, Shirley Cherry.  The Bowl has quizzed High School Students, Adults, and now for the third year, Middle School Students.  Three of our 7th and 8th graders took up the challenge and participated.  They read and studied and hit the stage prepared and knowledgeable.  They did really well, taking the lead in the beginning, tied for another round and finished with answering 9 out of the thirty questions first and correctly.  Machell Hinton was our top scorer, joined by Kyle Hinton and Elijah Evans.  They learned alot, had fun and are definitely winners in our eyes.  Keep your eyes out for the press coverage of this annual event.
